About Us
Did you know that all Lane County residents can receive FREE compost?
From now through 2026, Lane County is giving away 5,000 tons of Love Food Not Waste compost–made from organic material collected through residential and commercial organics programs in Eugene, Springfield, and Veneta–at eight free compost events hosted in local communities. Additionally, Lane County farmers and community and school gardens can request free direct deliveries of bulk compost.
The program is made possible through a USDA grant that aims to serve all Lane County residents and agricultural producers, with a focus on historically underserved communities.
*Farmers placing an order must inspect the load upon arrival, before unloading, and be aware that all food waste compost will contain a small amount of deleterious material (less than 0.5% of plastic, paper, metal, rock, etc.) that falls within the acceptable level determined by the national standards set by the U.S. Composting Council.

Practices
Keeping food out of the landfill stops it from breaking down without air, which prevents methane gas generation that can warm the atmosphere up to 30 times more than carbon dioxide over the short term. Fortunately, composting can help prevent methane emissions. Love Food Not Waste Compost is an all-purpose compost made entirely from local yard debris and food scraps collected from residents and businesses in Eugene, Springfield, and Veneta. Local haulers collect food scraps and bring them to Rexius for composting. This versatile compost can be an alternative top dressing for flower and planting beds, a seed cover for new lawns, and a natural soil amendment for newly planted gardens. It is ideal for preparing soil in flower beds, vegetable gardens, and landscaping areas. For best results, blend equal parts compost with native soil and incorporate 1” to 2” of compost into planting beds annually to increase organic matter and improve soil structure. Using compost as a mulch around plants protects roots and enhances the soil and moisture-holding capacity.
